Village Projects

The village green in the foreground of the church and hall is owned and maintained by the Trust and consists of approximately one acre of grass with a twenty tree collection consisting of a range of species from the genus prunus (cherry), betula ( birch), sorbus (rowan), crataegus    ( thorn), acer ( maple). The Green has become a popular meeting place for villagers with educational groups using it for activities. Bob Bilson is a Tree Warden for the village and is available to advise on the selection, planting and aftercare of trees.

There are pieces of land around the village that members have cultivated to provide seasonal colour. The photo shows flowering plants shrubs and trees at Wilson’s place along Sunnyside. We have wild flowers and bulbs planted with the help of children along Bonfield Road, Main Street and Bonfield Park along with a planted raised bed opposite the Tavern. This is in addition to fifty containers planted with floral displays throughout the village and maintained by members.

The Telephone Box art gallery was set up in 2018 by Lada Wilson the curator and changes its exhibits every six weeks. Presentations are made usually on a Sunday afternoon at 3.45 followed by more information discussion with tea and biscuits in the Church Hall. Artists and makers range from new graduates making their first installation to highly experienced professionals based in the U.K. and beyond. You can follow the gallery on it’s dedicated Facebook page.
